History

A Brief History of the English Language Education Study Program FKIP Untan

The English Language Education Study Program was initially a branch of IKIP Bandung, established on September 28, 1965, based on the Decree of the Minister of PTIP No. 8008/Sekret/BUP/65. At that time, it was named the English Department under the Faculty of Teacher Training in Arts and Letters (FKSS). Then in 1969, this department was integrated into Tanjungpura University into two faculties, namely the Faculty of Teacher Training and the Faculty of Education, based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 161/1967 dated December 16, 1967. The English Department was under the management of the Faculty of Teacher Training.

Furthermore, on March 4, 1983, the Faculty of Teacher Training and the Faculty of Education were merged into a new faculty named the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 20418/C/1983. This change resulted in a change in the faculty structure which presented four departments, namely: (1) Department of Educational Sciences (IP); (2) Department of Social Sciences (IPS); (3) Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA); and (4) Department of Language and Arts Education. The English Language Education Study Program is under the Department of Language and Arts Education.
