The English Language Education Program was initially a branch of IKIP Bandung, founded on September 28, 1965, based on Minister of PTIP Decree No. 8008/Sekret/BUP/65. At that time, it was known as the English Language Department under the Faculty of Education, Literature, and Arts (FKSS). Later in 1969, the department was integrated into Tanjungpura University, forming two faculties, namely the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Educational Sciences, based on Minister of Education and Culture Decree No. 161/1967 dated December 16, 1967. The English Language Department was under the management of the Faculty of Education.
On March 4, 1983, the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Educational Sciences were merged into a new faculty called the Faculty of Education and Educational Sciences (FKIP) based on Minister of Education and Culture Decree No. 20418/C/1983. This change resulted in a new faculty structure that introduced four departments: (1) Education Science Department (IP); (2) Social Sciences Department (IPS); (3) Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department (MIPA); and (4) Language and Arts Education Department. The English Language Education Program was under the Language and Arts Education Department.
